Olive Oil and Trieste
The geographical position of Trieste is of utmost strategic, political and economic importance, allowing and encouraging direct contacts with foreign countries.
Cultivation of olive has been present here since time immemorial, and is well rooted in the social-cultural context of the local populations. In recent times, there has been a marked development, such that currently the Region of Friuli Venezia Giulia, in particular the Province of Trieste and the close-by areas of Slovenia and Croatia, are enjoying much activity in this branch of agriculture. Production of olive oil, however, remains a niche area, which is precisely why Trieste can act as the perfect host location for the promotion of quality olive oil consumption abroad.
